A Rabbi, A Therapist and a Good Friend Walk Into A Bar…

psychoanalysis1CoverLevineCollection“You have filled this world with so many good and wise people. Grant me the humility, God, to seek out many teachers. Give me the courage to ask for help, the ability to distinguish wisdom from folly, the willingness to embrace new thoughts. May my learning lead me to insight, to reverence, to love, and to You. Amen.”
~ Naomi Levy from Talking To God (c)

“In modern society most of us don’t want to be in touch with ourselves; we want to be in touch with other things like religion, sports, politics, a book – we want to forget ourselves. Anytime we have leisure, we want to invite something else to enter us, opening ourselves to the television and telling the television to come and colonize us.”
Thich Nhat Hanh, Being Peace

What happens when we avoid ourselves?
What happens when we close off,
Deflect,
Not believe in our inner core,
Not trust,
Not care?
We melt, like candles lit by a blowtorch
Where the intellect flames out
And the substance that is us
melts away…
Puddles in a liquid mass
That only by remolding
Can be made back into what we once were…
What is lost in that melting down?

Who is the stronger builder:
Ourselves, or the ones we put our totality into?
There is support, and there are saviors…
Give me the support
Let me build myself back up
Stay with me while I do it
Stay by my side while I do it

So…tomorrow starts with the addition of someone new in the side of support, and more than a week of no jobs/no pay. Let’s see how I hold up. Doing good so far, because I want it so much.

  3. Some amazing quote you have gathered there. Blessings are coming your way Stuart I just feel it. 🙂

  4. Great writing Stu – like a blowtorch, indeed. I hope that you find faith in yourself. If you take your own measure in kindness and compassion, friendship and generosity, I think you will find yourself far more than a guttering candle. 🙂
