Keep Going Forward

All you can do is keep going forward
All you can do is keep going forward
All you can do is keep going forward…
Small-open-doorAnother door shut
Or so it seems
With no information at hand
So you keep going forward
And as you keep going forward
You sometimes don’t see the point
And you know no one wins the lottery
If they don’t play
And no one gets a date
if they don’t ask
And no one gets a job
If they don’t apply
(unless it’s handed to them
Passed down more than earned
Or they know someone
Where it may not be as deserved
But an obligation paid)
So you keep going forward
When the door is shut
The pathway is blocked
Your heart and head want to cry out
But you’re told you’re being proactive
And you’re doing all you can do
And you keep going forward
Why are you just standing still?
O God, I don’t want to stand still
I don’t want this rut
It is time to go forward
In a real forward way
In a real productive way
In a real way

  1. Sometimes it’s better to go sideways… You get a better view of what you need to do to reach that next pinnacle.

    • Roy, I understand that. I have the name from the UJA Connect to Care that I hope will help me revamp my resume, cover letters, and what to apply for, using the skills and talents I do have. Right now, I’m just lost. Sideways….my sign in Cancer the Crab…might be the best thing.

  2. 😦 (((HUG))) So discouraging. It’s hard not to become angry and bitter, but that just makes things worse. I know you’re trying as hard as you can. Hoping and praying that something, anything, opens up somewhere for you.

  3. Hi Stuart:
Just remember. All is working just as it should. And everything will be fine in the end and if it isn’t fine, then it isn’t the end.

I know! I know! You may think these are just platitudes, Stuart. I know this to be true as I’ve seen it happen in my own life.

  4. If it were not for the sense of hope at the end of your poem, it sort of reminds me of Leonard Cohen’s “Everybody Knows”. On the other hand, you COULD still interpret this poem in a sardonic light if that is your (meaning the “universal” your) persuasion. I like it! 🙂

  5. I think that you are right to persevere, whether it is by going forward or sideways. I think that you need to keep your eyes and ears open and be flexible in your head: I am starting to make a bit of money thanks to my blog, something that I never thought would happen. That’s also something that I would never have thought remotely possible a year ago. Opportunities are not always where you think they are. Good luck!
